Earth Day will be the most most eco-friendly run

Dogs, strollers, walkers and runners of all ages are gearing up for the National Trust Earth Day fun run this weekend.

It is on Sunday at 7am at Dart Park in South Sound. With proceeds of the fun run benefiting the Trust’s conservation efforts in the Cayman Islands, this year’s theme is ‘Every Day is Earth Day’.

A highlight of Cayman’s Earth Day activities happening throughout April, the fun run is once again being sponsored by PwC, which has taken an active role in conservation and environmental leadership.

Falling on Earth Day itself, the event will be greener than ever with plant-based biodegradable water bottles and cups, online (paperless) registration, trophies made from recycled materials, eco-friendly prizes, recycled art and signs along the route.

“We are very excited about a brand new feature we have introduced this year which is an aluminium can and used cellular telephone recycling drive,” said National Trust General Manager Christina McTaggart.

In addition to the race, the family-oriented event is a great opportunity to learn more about green lifestyle choices and to win great race and raffle prizes including Cayman Airways tickets and eco-friendly products and activities.

“PwC is excited to be involved once again this year,” said PwC’s Angilynn Baraud. “We have already been collecting aluminium cans around the office in anticipation for 22 April and encourage other corporations and individuals to come out and participate. If we all do a little, we can change a lot.”

Runners can register for the race online by visiting or at the National Trust office in Dart Park, South Sound. Entry is $20 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Online registrants automatically receive one raffle ticket.
