Grand Cayman residents now have another healthy choice when it come to food.
Bay Market, an entity of the Foster’s Group of Companies, opened last month and had a grand opening ceremony on 17 April.
Located at Camana Bay, Bay Market focuses on organic food and other gourmet speciality items. It also has a coffee bar, fresh pastries and a deli that serves sushi, prepared foods and made-to-order salads and sandwiches.
Foster’s Group Managing Director Woody Foster said the store had been in the making for many years, even before Hurricane Ivan hit in September 2004.
“It is great to see that all our ideas have finally culminated today,” he said. “From our discussions, we decided on a small gourmet, organic store that would service the residents of Camana Bay, the many employees from around Camana Bay and the wider community, who are looking for a healthier option … than what is currently available in Cayman.”
Mr. Foster said Bay Market boasted the largest variety of cheese in the Cayman Islands.
“We are bringing in some of the finest cheeses from around the world,” he said. “This section has already been a huge success … since we opened.”
Bay Market carries a variety of organic meats, including beef, pork, chicken and even buffalo.
“The best part about buffalo is that it is leaner than chicken and has less calories,” Mr. Foster said. “How can you beat that?”
Most of Bay Market’s fresh produce is organic.
“We have a delicious array of the staples, while offering some pretty amazing new items,” Mr. Foster said, encouraging customers to try dragon fruit. “The line up will keep changing as the seasons change and will continue to bring you new and exciting products. In fact, we are in communication now with a local produce celebrity to carry fresh local produce every day as a feature of our produce department.”
The store also features aisles of gourmet dry goods, most of which are organic, natural or gluten free.
“The list of items is ever growing as our customers give us new ideas on what items they would like to see us carry,” Mr. Foster said.
Bay Market also carries products from several local businesses, including Cayman Scents; Cayman Pepper Patch; Caribo’s Sausages; and Tea Time in Cayman, which markets certified organic loose leaves.
