Complete Writing

Complete Writing is joined by Mona Lisa Tatum as the company’s marketing and communications specialist. Ms Tatum previously worked at the Cayman Islands National Gallery where, for close to five years, she served as the communications and marketing manager.

Ms. Tatum has been involved in Cayman’s entertainment industry locally for most of her adult life having worked as an on air radio personality, digital video editor and associate producer for the Cayman 27 morning show Daybreak, news broadcaster with the Paramount Media Group, stage manager for numerous key stage productions, host of various exclusive events including Jazz Fest 2008; and judge for countless musical competitions. In 1999, she won Miss Cayman Islands and represented the Islands internationally at Miss World and Miss Universe.

“This is a very exciting time for our writing agency,” said Chief Editor Sonya Carlesso. “As we begin to emerge from a long period of global economic challenges, it is imperative that we develop results-driven strategic marketing programmes so that we can meet our competitive challenges and improve profitability. While we needed someone who could bring a particular technical expertise to our business, in this case marketing, we were firm in our resolve to find someone who would fit,” she added.

“Having said that, we’ve had our eye on Mona for quite some time now. Not only is she suitably competent in the world of communications, well-respected by the media industry, and highly recognised publicly, her personality and ability to relate in a real and positive way to people from all walks of life, makes her a natural fit for our writing agency.”

The Aall Foundation

Feed our Future, a not for profit foundation which continues to advocate for hungry children in Cayman’s schools, is the recent recipient of a donation from The Aall Foundation, a charitable trust established in the Cayman Islands in 1982 with a broadly defined charitable purpose through which various causes have benefited over the years. “The Aall Foundation is pleased to be able to support Feed Our Future with this particular community project as no child should go hungry. There is no doubt that this is a worthy Charity to assist,” commented representatives of The Aall Foundation.

Feed our Future, which approaches the one-year anniversary of its launch in June is now, is with the help of The Aall Foundation well positioned to further develop their school meal programme in the upcoming school year. “We believe that in our community everybody has a role to play and that something as simple as a healthy school meal can make all the difference in the life of a hungry child, especially one that is trying to keep up and succeed at school,” said Stacey VanDevelde of Feed our Future. “We sincerely appreciate the support and encouragement of the board of directors of The Aall Foundation charitable trust.” Since inception, Feed our Future has worked with schools to identify those children that have limited access to food and who suffer silently. It is estimated that 20 per cent of the country’s school population relies on a subsidised or free lunch, and for many this is their one meal for the day. With its objective to provide healthy school meals to children in need, Feed our Future encourages more organisations such as The Aall Foundation to take a stand against childhood hunger in the Cayman Islands through a partnership with their cause.

KPMG

KPMG in the Cayman Islands has donated CI$5,000 towards helping the George Town Primary School purchase a playground and to assist with their sports programme.

Since Hurricane Ivan, the students have found areas around the school to play because of the lack of a playground. The PTA at George Town Primary have reached out to a number of organisations in order to raise funds towards providing their children with the necessary need of a playground for an active, safe and fun childhood.

Parents will be happy to know their children are in a safe area during break time and afterschool once the playground is complete. The fundraising is still in progress as the school continues to seek sponsorship to reach their necessary monetary goal.

Cheyenna Stewart, GTPS Fundraising Coordinator and parent stated, “George Town Primary PTA, Parents and Staff are very fortunate to have a company like KPMG in the community. With their donation we are that much closer to providing a playground for the children at the start of the new school year. Not only did they provide funds, but offered to assist with mentoring and volunteering with the children in our afterschool program is priceless.”

Although a playground is usually utilised for playtime, the PTA committee desires to purchase one which includes a mini amphitheatre for the children to perform and a fun place to host their reading classes. Part of the proceeds will also go towards their Sports program to ensure their students have the same opportunity to excel in athletic sports as their peers in other schools.

When approached with this initiative, Anthony Cowell, partner at KPMG, expressed his interest to get involved. “This is a great project that will benefit the children in more than one way. With the opportunity to help a long standing school in Grand Cayman provide their children with the essentials to learn and play is important. We appreciate the chance to assistance the children and staff of George Town Primary with their targeted goals,” he said. Cayman Development Bank

Approximately 30 public sector employees who are involved in implementation of projects undertaken by the Government of the Cayman Islands are expected to participate in a workshop to be hosted by the Caribbean Development Bank later this month.

Responsibility for procurement management under projects financed by CDB rests with the recipient of CDB financing and not the bank. The recipient is the entity which establishes and signs all contracts with consultants, contractors and suppliers and, as the client, is legally and operationally in charge in all such purchasing relationships. The role of the bank in these procurement undertakings is one of oversight to ensure that procurement is carried out in accordance with the bank’s procurement guidelines and the terms of the relevant financing agreement between the recipient and CDB.

The workshop has been organised to launch the bank’s revised procurement guidelines for consultants. This will be the fifth such workshop to be held in the bank’s borrowing member countries to launch the “Guidelines for the Selection and Engagement of Consultants by Recipients of CDB Financing” (October 2011). Similar workshops have already taken place in St Lucia, Belize, Jamaica and Grenada.

In the Cayman Islands, among the capital projects which CDB has financed are the Owen Roberts International Airport improvement, the Pedro St. James Heritage Project, the Gerrard Smith International Airport, the Cayman Brac Port and a sanitary sewerage system.

The opening ceremony for the Cayman Islands workshop is scheduled to begin at 9.00 am on 17 May.

The workshop will be held on 17 and 18 May, 2012, at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. Nick Freeland, Chairman of the Central Tenders Committee, which is the key body in the oversight of government spending and value for money in the Cayman Islands, will give the opening remarks on behalf of the country’s Ministry of Finance.

The Cayman Islands is a founder member of CDB, and will host the Bank’s Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors on 23 and 24 May, 2012, also at The Ritz-Carlton.
