Stars hope third try is a charm

All Stars netball club will get their third straight shot at a national title.

The squad booked their spot last Thursday as All Stars A, sponsored by Central Cooling, would down Rising Stars A 52-21 in the championship division of the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012 open league elimination round.

Rising Stars had a bad start with a five-point deficit within the first few minutes but then managed to finish the quarter well, down only 13-9. Throughout the game, both teams worked hard and had their ups and downs but All Stars, featuring players like Kimesha Walters, certainly had a better flow to the game. They moved the ball smoothly through the mid-court and took advantage of interceptions their defenders took brilliantly.

All of these were finished off with magnificent shooting by all of their attacking players. The quarter breakdown saw All Stars extend their lead by winning the next three quarters 12-6, 12-4 and 15-2.

All Stars will now take on Roma ‘A’ in the championship game at 6.30pm on 2 June at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts. All Stars are competing in their third consecutive title match, having faced Roma the previous two times. On both occasions, Roma would come out on top behind a juggernaut offence featuring Kay Copeland.

Netball playoffs continue this week with plate division matches slated to be played on Thursday, 24 May and Saturday, 26 May (weather permitting) with the final contest slated for 2 June.
