One man died and another was seriously hurt following an early morning collision on South Sound Road.
According to witnesses, two trucks were involved in the crash that occurred around 4.30am just outside the San Sebastian condo complex.
One truck appeared to have clipped a tree alongside the road just prior to the wreck. One vehicle collided with the driver’s side of the other, according to witnesses.
The dead man was identified as Corey Seymour. Mr. Seymour worked as a mechanic with the Cayman Islands Fire Service, repairing emergency response vehicles, according to Chief Fire Officer Dennom Bodden.
Mr. Bodden said Mr. Seymour was not a fire officer, but a civilian employee.
Two other people were injured in the accident. One, Corey Seymour’s cousin Cameron, was hospitalised requiring surgery. The third victim in the crash was treated and released from hospital, police said.
Family members later said that Cameron would have to be flown off island for treatment in Miami.
Police closed down a section of South Sound Road between the Hurley’s roundabout and the Walkers Road intersection for several hours Saturday morning while they investigated the accident.
This is the third deadly vehicle accident to occur in the Cayman Islands during 2012.
