Flag football is officially back on the radar for local ladies.
The Grand Cayman Flag Football Association recently staged a jamboree to mark the start of its 2012 season. It took place last Saturday at the T.E. McField Sports Centre, which is often called the Annex, in George Town.
Various exhibition matches occurred during the day. A number of squads took part, including 2011 champions the Hammerheads Lady Sharks and showcased notable players like Serena Yates. The league has increased in size to feature eight teams, with the Subway Stingers among the newcomers.
League matches get under way this Saturday, 2 June, from 9am at the Camana Bay sports field. Games will take place every Saturday morning.
News of the women’s league start comes as the national men’s competition gets going. The 2012 Digicel Summer League, put on by the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association, will stage its jamboree at the Ed Bush Field in West Bay this Saturday, 2 June, from 1pm.
League matches officially start on 16 June as seven teams storm the field this year in reigning champions the West Bay Hellcats, Cox Colts, Burger King Panthers, Dart Hurricanes (formerly the Hammerheads Pirates), Club House Bulldogs (formerly the Doghouse Bulldogs), Maples Packers and PWC Ironmen.
