Large group of migrants sent home

The sizeable group of Cuban migrants that arrived in the Cayman Islands on 18 April after their vessel ran into difficulties in Cayman Brac were repatriated Thursday evening.

The group consisted of 27 men and one woman.

Four members of the migrant group escaped at one point during their stay from guards at the George Town Immigration Detention Centre, but all were recaptured within 48 hours.

The repatriation took place without incident, immigration officers said.
