Starfish outwitted wily Foxes

The Ritz-Carlton has just wrapped up its first Corporate Team Tennis League in Grand Cayman, hosted at The Courts Tennis Centre.

Run by head coach Thomas Neuert, the league consisted of eight teams with a total of 84 players competing in a round robin format. Each team got to play at least seven match-ups in the inaugural spring season.

Each team entered at least eight players of which six got to play in each match-up versus another team. There were three doubles played in each match-up. The team that won two out of three games won the match-up.

Neuert said: “The feedback we received from running the league was amazing. We already have four new teams that want to join this league for the fall season which starts in September.

“For the fall season we are accepting the first 16 teams to enter. In order to participate you do not necessarily have to be a corporation, you can also join if you and your friends would like to start up a team. Keep in mind in order to register a team you need to have a minimum of eight players signed up which must be five men and three women.”

There were two very exciting and competitive match-ups on the final day.

In the match for third place, Team PWC beat Team Tennis Superstars 2-1. In the final, No.1 seed and undefeated Team Starfish Sports played No.2 seed Team Fox Tennis. Starfish Sports won 2-1 in a very close final.

For Starfish, Jody Danter and Lindsey Bridgeman beat Doris De Jesus and Shirma Roxas in the first game. Then Jeff Danter and Dan kneipp beat Ding Briones and Rene Seleta to put Starfish 2-0 up. Nelson Capito and Ed Lamada won the any combo match for Fox against Mike Nelson and Kevin Higgo.
