Jet skis race to Grand Caymanian

The Grand Caymanian is about to get into jet ski racing in a big way.

The resort will host the third round of the Cayman Islands Water Craft Association 2012 national circuit championship on Sunday, 29 July. Action will start at 10.30am and last until roughly 4.30pm.

Grand Caymanian director of sales and marketing Brooke Meyer expects racers to reach speeds of 80 miles per hour.

“We are privileged to become the title sponsor of this great event and look forward to providing an exciting day of family fun for race fans and spectators at the resort,” Meyer said.

Racing is expected to take place directly behind the resort, around the North Sound of Grand Cayman. Spectators can watch the action from the beach for free. A number of local racing talent is slated to be on display, including the last two Jet Around Cayman winners in Roshad Goff (2011) and Gary ‘GJ’ Whittaker (2012).

Aside from the racing, there will be other festivities including a beach volleyball tournament, kayak races, a modelling demonstration and live musical performances. Food will also be on sale.

Meyer also mentioned that on-site vendors, musical entertainment and a beachside barbecue will be on offer at the resort’s Blue Iguana Grill and Lounge.
