The Cayman Islands Volleyball Federation is inviting families to spend an afternoon on the golf course to help raise money for their Youth Development Programme.
It all takes place this afternoon, Friday, 10 August, from 1pm to 4pm. Kids can have fun driving the golf carts, on the putting green and practicing their swing. No experience is required but for those who have golfed before there will be some more competitive drills they can participate in.
Kids should ideally be older than six and there must be one adult per golf cart. The fee to participate is $250 per cart and numbers per cart are limited to how many people one can comfortably and safely fit in the cart.
Volleyball coach Andrea Williams says she hopes this event will help to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause:. The youth development programme, she explains, offers free volleyball coaching to all kids, regardless of ability. They started out with half a dozen kids a year ago and now have 20 to 30 children who turn up for coaching every Saturday between 9am and 12pm. The programme is also running a free summer camp and is planning to send a group of children off island later in the year. In order to continue the youth development programme, however, they do need to raise funds as all activities are free of charge and all coaches participate on an entirely voluntary basis.
