Young at Arts auditions on Saturday

Promising young performers should be signing up today at the latest if they want to audition for the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s Young at Arts programme for this semester.

Auditions take place tomorrow, Saturday, 15 September at the Harquail Theatre, between 10am and noon. The course begins on 17 September.

The Young at Arts programme is aimed at 12-17 year olds who are interested in the performing arts. During the course of each semester, those who are offered places on the programme will meet three times per week after school, to practice different theatrical disciplines. The programme runs for the academic year and as long as students attain good grades, they will be able to progress to the second year.

Because performing arts are not taught as part of the regular school curriculum, the main purpose of the programme is to train young creative minds in the practical disciplines of the performing arts.

Children wishing to participate in the Young at Arts programme must not only show an interest and ability in acting, music or dance, but must also demonstrate discipline, creativity, regularity and punctuality.

There are 30 available spaces on the programme and the cost is $150 per month.

A maximum of three scholarships, awarded based on need and merit, are awarded each semester.

Those wishing to audition should register online on CNCF’s website. They will need to have prepared one monologue, be it a speech or poem, or a song, dance or piece of music to play on an instrument. Students may also be asked to do creative work by adjudicators.
