Red Cross tourney raises more than $40,000

The RBC sponsored 15th Annual Charitable Golf Tournament at the North Sound Club to benefit the Cayman Islands Red Cross on Saturday, 7 September, raised $40,525 through entry fees, hole sponsors and raffle items. More than 140 golfers participated in the event, which featured a four-man scramble format with a shotgun start.

“RBC has been the named sponsor of this event since its inception in 1998,” said Jason Waters, head RBC Royal Bank retail banking in the Cayman Islands. “Our partnership with the Red Cross is important to RBC in so many ways. We are pleased that we are able to raise money and visibility for the Red Cross, which does so much for our community.”

As part of its sponsorship, RBC donated a signed Luke Donald RBC golf bag, which raised $1,210 through a raffle drawing.

“We sincerely thank RBC and all of our sponsors for their support of this event,” said Jondo Obi, director of the Cayman Islands Red Cross. “We could not succeed without the combined efforts of all involved, and especially want to thank the volunteers and participants for their involvement. The money raised will directly and immediately benefit our local programmes and activities.”

The golf tournament concluded with a prize-giving ceremony where the top teams were acknowledged. The Andersons’ team took first prize, and the following teams were awarded second through fourth prizes, respectively, were earned by Divetech, Usual Suspects and Queens Gate.

The long drive contest winners were Cary Marr in the men’s division and Samantha Twiss in the women’s division.

“We sincerely thank all of our sponsors, golfers and volunteers for making this year’s tournament a huge success,” Ms Obi said. “We look forward to continuing our work in the community due to the generous support of those involved with this event.”
