The Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort is hosting a benefit dinner dance on Saturday, 20 October, for veterans.
Organisers are planning that this will be an annual event and is intended to salute anyone in the Cayman Islands that has ever worn a uniform. It’s a fundraising event to help support the many older veterans as world prices continue to rise. Poppy sales and donations are not enough to keep pace and therefore fundraising is needed.
Keynote speaker is Governor Duncan Taylor, said Dale M. Banks, president of the Cayman Islands Veterans Association, in a welcome letter.
“The dinner dance will be held to full military etiquette and an explanation will be given for each part of the dining ceremony. This will represent a chance for former service members to reminisce on the camaraderie we have shared at past events and even more impressive an opportunity for members of the general public to get a behind the scenes look into some of the mystique surrounding military formalities.
“This is a black tie event and we encourage all former uniformed members to wear their best dress uniform. There will be several surprises throughout the night and we will end the evening with an opportunity to dance the night away.”
The dinner dance runs from 6pm to midnight on Saturday, 20 October. Contact Simone at 917 4500 for more information, tickets, sponsorship and donations.
