Olympic champion for Pirates Week 5k swim

An Olympic gold medallist will be participating in the 2012 Pirates Week 5k sea swim on Saturday, 10 November.

Oussama Mellouli, also known as Ous, won the gold medal in the 10k marathon swim at the 2012 London Olympics. He also won bronze in the 1,500 metre freestyle.

The Tunisian became the 1500m freestyle world champion at the 2009 World Aquatics Championships with a winning time of 14:37.28, then the second best performance of all time. He won gold in the 1,500 freestyle at the 2008 Olympics, and trains with the USC Trojans team based in the University of Southern California.

Pat Bazzell-Taylor of Pirates Week said that it was “exciting” to anticipate the arrival of the legendary athlete.
