Anglers in the Cayman Islands have one more shot at landing the big one.
The Cayman Islands Angling Club will be staging its second annual All Tackle Tournament next weekend, 3-4 November.
Fishing action will take place on Grand Cayman waters. The Barcadere Marina in George Town will serve as the weigh station for both tournament days with spectators catching a glimpse of the catches from 4pm to 6pm.
The awards ceremony is slated for 6 November at 7pm at Sunset House. Fisherman can take home a number of cash prizes. The heaviest dolphin, wahoo and yellowfin tuna catches earn $2,000. The second heaviest catch of each species earns $1,500 and the third heaviest fish garners $500.
Additional prizes are on offer for teams with the most billfish releases and the lady angler with the heaviest eligible fish.
Registration is set for next Thursday, 1 November, 6-8pm at Sunset House. There is an entry fee of $250 per team for up to four anglers. Tournament sponsors include the angling club, the Barcadere Marina and Tomlinson Furniture.
It will be interesting to see how the 2012 catches stack up to last year. In 2011, Leon Dilbert had a 38.6 pound wahoo and a 26.2lb dolphin, Shelly Ware nabbed a 28.4lb dolphin and a 32.3lb wahoo and Vaughan Smith had a 32.8lb wahoo.
