Go Pro welcomes ‘Spike’ to team

A local dive and water sports company has added a new staff member.

Spilios “Spike” Kordos is the training coordinator at Go Pro Cayman and is a PADI master instructor and international yacht training instructor.

The native of Aigio, Greece, previously worked at Paros Island as a divemaster, he said.

“Upon attaining the Open Water Scuba Instructor rating I bought a PADI dive centre in Paros Island, which within two years became a PADI five-star resort. After five years of running my dive shop, economic recession problems in Greece forced me to sell my business and move on to my next challenge.

“A job in the Caribbean sounded ideal and I started working in the Cayman Islands in February 2011 for Red Sail Sports as a PADI master scuba diver trainer and boat captain,” he said.

Rewarding life

Mr. Kordos joined Go Pro on Monday, 1 October and is tasked with training divemasters, overseeing internships and teaching the international yachting programmes.

“My life here in Cayman so far is very rewarding, I do what I like most in one of the most beautiful places in the world. It reminds me of Greece a lot. The crystal blue water, the beaches, the people are very friendly and, of course, the diving is breathtaking. I grew up in a place surrounded by water and I cannot imagine myself living far away from it.

“I enjoy every moment of my new job because there are so many different tasks to complete and it never gets boring. From teaching courses to beginners and taking them all the way through to their instructor’s course, to doing yacht training to experienced boat operators. My job also consists of a lot of administration work and marketing, which I enjoy as well. Sometimes you need a break from diving and spend some time behind a computer trying to coordinate all these different activities that Go Pro Cayman offers,” he said.

He added that his ambition was to attain a PADI course director rating, a course to which he is hoping to be accepted in 2013.
