Organisers of the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon have announced a new ‘perk’ for runners who register early, specifically by Friday 9 November which incidentally is the last day before registration fees increase.
Everyone registered for the full and half marathon before midnight on 9 November will have their running bibs personalised with their first names while teams will have their names emblazoned on their chests.
“We are always trying to find ways to enhance the race, and this year we’ve added personalised bibs to our repertoire,” says race director Rhonda Kelly of Kelly Holding Ltd.
“This is something that a lot of the bigger races do and we are so glad that we are able to offer this to our runners especially since we are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of our event.
“I hope that the prospect of having their bibs custom made, along with beating the registration increase deadline, will motivate people who are thinking about running to register sooner rather than later.”
Kelly says another element that has been added to the team event this year is a contest to see which team can come up with the best name, which will be voted on by the volunteers.
“Last year we had teams with hilarious, creative names such as Thong Distance Runners, Wii Not Fit, The Third Leg Is The Hardest, Rapid Thigh Movement, Worst Pace Scenario and We Got The Runs.
“We felt we needed to find a way to reward that inventiveness so that is the reasoning behind the competition.”
Kelly says the prize for the best team name is yet to be decided but is encouraging teams to start working on their names. In addition, she reminded people to take advantage of the rates before they increase on 9 November and also the opportunity to get a personalised bib.
Registration for the 2012 Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon, Half Marathon, Team Relay and Kids Fun Run is open online at CaymanIslandsMarathon.com. Walk-in registration can also be done at the Kelly Holding office in Selkirk Plaza.
