Girls in the Cayman Islands are storming the court.
The Cayman Islands Basketball Association is putting on a girls division for its Under-19 Basketball League. Games have taken place every Saturday since late October at the association court on Eastern Avenue.
Heading into this week, the Lynx have been the top team at 4-1.
Guiding the offence has been the league’s third-best scorer in April Ebanks, who is averaging 15.8 points per game. Other notable players include Hannah Parchment, Khadijah Lewin and Sashaneil McField.
Chasing the Lynx are three other teams in the 2-2 Monarchs, the 2-2 Comets and the 0-4 Sparks.
The league’s top scorer is Chloe Powery of the Comets, averaging 32 points per game.
Rochel Gardener leads the Monarchs with 22.8 points per game and Alessandra Hawkins tops the Sparks with 8.5 points per game.
The girls are next in action this Saturday, 8 December, at the association court. At 5.45pm, the Comets battle the Lynx and at 7pm the Monarchs challenge the Sparks. The regular season finale is slated for next Saturday, 15 December.
Over in the boys division, the playoffs are expected to start next Tuesday, 11 December, from 6pm at the association court.
