Chelsea was inspired

Top American footballer Carli Lloyd was at the Dream Out Loud football camps this week and aspiring player Chelsea Greene was one of her many admirers to receive tips from the star.

The Arie Smith Football Camps at the Ed Bush stadium in West Bay gave local youngsters a chance to rub shoulders with one of the world’s best players who has inspired a whole generation of females.

Greene, 15, certainly made the most of the chance. She had an outstanding debut season at her new high school in Orlando.

She made honour roll this term at Montverde Academy and started all 17 games and led the defensive side as centre back.

Greene scored her season’s second goal on Saturday when they moved her up to midfield in the second half in their 2-0 win.

She loves it at Montverde and is grateful for the opportunity and recognises this is what she needs to do to hopefully reach her dream of getting a scholarship to a Division 1 school.

Greene hopes to get in at either Penn State and Florida State and plans to work hard for the next two and a half years to achieve that.

She is a sophomore in prep school and was given a grant to attend Montverde to play soccer.

“Carli is an amazing player,” Greene said. “I was inspired by how she came off the bench and scored the two winning goals for the gold at the Olympics.

“After listening to Carli about how hard she trains each and every day, I know even more now what I have to do.

“I want to make everyone proud and I know with hard work, I can do just that.”
