Shooters will get no holiday rest over mid-term break

Local netball intends to be busy around the Ash Wednesday holiday.

The Cayman Islands Netball Association announced in a statement that it will be hosting Mid-Term Break Clinics for youngsters ages 8 to 14. The two-day sessions will take place indoors from 9am to 3pm.

On Thursday, 14 February, the Sir John A. Cumber Primary School hall in West Bay will serve as the venue. On Friday, 15 February, action shifts to the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall at the University College of the Cayman Islands in George Town.

Technical director for Cayman netball Gillian Lee will serve as organiser and she said the goal is fun, positive activity.

“You will enjoy your netball even more if you improve your netball skills,” Lee said.

“Holiday clinics are designed to teach you new skills, include fun activities and have you playing netball like a pro. I look forward to teaching you all.”

The sessions cost $20 and $25 for the West Bay and George Town clinics, respectively.

News of the clinics comes after a pair of youth competitions recently wrapped up. The girls primary school netball league took place at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex, under the likes of Ronnie Roach. Cayman Academy, East End Primary and George Town Primary were among the participating schools.

The high school league, targeting the under-14 and under-16 age groups, saw matches at Truman Bodden and John Gray High School. Among the competing teams were John Gray’s Dolphin, Marlin, Tarpon and Wahoo Academies, Triple C and Clifton Hunter High School.

The main programme for young players is the Cayman National Bank Turtle Netters initiative.

Participants must provide transportation to and from the holiday clinics. All players are asked to bring their own water and drinking bottle. All sessions start promptly on time. For more information, e-mail [email protected]
