Students at St. Ignatius Catholic School have been rehearsing hard for the past few months for the school musical and the first performance of the show is just days away.
They will be performing “Music Man”, a musical by Meredith Willson, which has been a Broadway hit and was also adapted for the silver screen in 1962.
Music Man centres on Harold Hill, a travelling salesman/conman who arrives in River City, Iowa, and convinces the populace that the city’s youth is in danger of being corrupted, and the only way to save them is to form a boys band, with him as the leader.
Parents spend money purchasing instruments and uniforms, and only the prim librarian and piano teacher Marian is suspicious of him and his “Think System” – until, that is, she sees her own brother brought out of his shell by music.
Marian begins to fall for Harold. Harold, in turn, risks being caught in order to win her.
Music Man promises to be an energetic, colourful and entertaining performance for all the family. The show will take place in the St. Ignatius Loyola Hall and with four shows this year, there will be ample opportunity for everyone to see it.
Show times are 7pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7, 8 and 9 March, as well as a 2pm matinee on Saturday.
