The International College of the Cayman Islands will hold its 12th Annual Walk this Saturday, 9 March.
The walk will serve to honour the memory of the college’s founder, Dr. J. Hugh Cummings, who founded Cayman’s first college in 1970, and also to raise money for the J. Hugh Cummings Memorial Scholarship for students in need of financial aid.
The economic downturn continues to affect many university students. In view of this, the school will once again attempt to counter this by holding the J. Hugh Cummings Memorial Walk with the aim of raising CI$30,000.
Students will benefit from additional assistance with books and tuition as they continue to pursue or complete a degree.
Dr. Tasha Ebanks-Garcia, president of ICCI, said: “There is much to be said about the tenacity of these students who continue to strive for their academic goals and degrees amidst a great deal of financial adversity, and we as a community have a responsibility to acknowledge their efforts with any and all assistance which we can provide.”
Suggested donations are $15 per person, which enables participants to receive a T-shirt, as well as snacks and drinks after the walk.
Meet time is 6am on Saturday, with start time at 6.30am. The walk will begin on campus, turnaround at Pedro St. James and return.
Registration forms and payment may be submitted at the school.
