Home Gas burn Lindsay Financial

Little League baseball is back on the diamond.

The first AAA game of 2013 took place this month at the Field of Dream facility in George Town. Home Gas would defeat Lindsay Financial Services, 10-6.

The game marked the return of LFS pitcher Mark “The Kraken” Chow to the mound after he missed most of last season to injury. Chow immediately established his credentials by setting down the first three Home Gas batters in order.

In the bottom of the first, LFS put four runs up on the board but the Home Gas bats sprung to life in the second, managing to put up three runs thanks to an RBI-triple from Kevin Webb and aggressive base running from Ahmaree Piercy and Jayden Ebanks.

LFS answered with a single from Christian Dube and two towering shots from Darian “War Tank” Lopez and Ryan van der Bol to increase their lead to three runs. Things got away from LFS in the third as they allowed four runs and were not able to answer when Home Gas pitcher Finnegan Huffington returned to the mound in the bottom of the third in “strike out” mode.

With LFS nerves frayed, several fielding errors caused Home Gas baserunners to score more runs in the fourth and Huffington was able to close out the game without allowing any more runs.

LFS would rebound to beat Popeye’s, 12-4, last Saturday. Ryan van der Bol was handed the ball for LFS and pitched a complete game, always seeming to find the third strike when needed. His pitching was supported by some good offence from Darian “War Tank” Lopez and Chow and aggressive baserunning by Mikeal Taylor and Roberth Davis.

The young Financiers kept their wits about them and there was a significant reduction in fielding errors, which had cost them during the opener. Several good defensive plays were made by Christian Dube at third base and Omar Sanchez at short.

Special mention goes to minor league player Matthew Dube, who was brave enough to play with the big boys when it was discovered that LFS was short one player. Dube played outfield and also drove in a run on a sacrifice.

AAA action continues on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 6.30 to 8pm.
