Photo competition returns

Get your entries in, folks, the Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s photo competition is open for entries until 31 March.

“Thanks to our generous sponsors, Cayman Islands Yellow Pages, Butterfield, and Cathy Church’s Photo Centre – the Online Photo Competition is back and better than ever,” Kaitlyn Elphinstone says. “Submissions will be accepted online from until the 31st, public voting will run 8 to 22 and winners will be announced Thursday, 2 May at our ‘Photo Talks’ event from 5.30 to 7.30pm at the Harquail Studio Theatre.”

With 12 categories to choose from as well as adult and youth categories Kaitlyn says that the foundation is looking forward to viewing Cayman’s diverse community through the art of photography.

Each photographer is allowed to enter one photo per category in up to three of the 2013 categories. Everyone is also welcome to enter a “bonus” photo in the Colour Me Yellow category sponsored by the Cayman Islands Yellow Pages. All photographs submitted must be taken in the Cayman Islands and photographers must be residents of the Cayman Islands.

About the competition

With more than one million photographs shared via the Internet every day, the world of photography is undergoing tremendous change. And so, the Cayman National Cultural Foundation Online Photo Competition is changing as well.

This year they have opened the competition to youth 17 and under and have invited expert photographers selected for their diverse range of backgrounds and experiences to judge the competition.

The goal is to foster a growing, community of photographers creating images that stand apart through their creativity, their ability to move people and their capacity for communication. The Online Photo Competition is a forum that brings together people with a passion for photography and an active commitment to bettering their art. Here, photographers of all sorts can acknowledge each other, be stimulated by diverse points of view and thrive through competition.

“For us at Cayman National Cultural Foundation, this community is a source of great inspiration as we pursue our goal of stimulating, facilitating and preserving cultural and artistic expression in the Cayman Islands, through projects and exhibitions, like this contest,” Kaitlyn says. “We believe in the power of the image to tell stories that can’t be told any other way. The Online Photo Competition is a celebration of that belief and an invitation to you to share your story. We would be honoured to have you take part in this year’s re-organised, re-energised competition.”
