Conyers Dill & Pearman overcame a strong HSBC squad to win 10-7 and remain undefeated and 5-0 in the Pony Division.
Strong defence was the key to Conyers’ win with three brilliant inning ending catches by Luke Atkinson. Offense was a collective effort led by Andrea Tognazzo with two doubles and Kayden Marshall with a home run and a single.
For HSBC, Witney Nathan-Davis and Taylor Bramwell got their first hits of the season and also scored their first runs. Brandon Eden and Stephanie Menko also had good at bats. A strong defensive display was the key to Conyers’ victory with three brilliant inning-ending catches by Luke Atkinson. Conyers go into their Easter break feeling confident with their good start and strong overall team play.
Appleby earned an exciting 14-13 win over Coldwell Banker. With all the players showing tremendous progress since the start of the season, there were hits all over the field and few strikeouts. On the defensive side, the kids made some terrific efforts.
The player of the game for Appleby was Trey Josephs, with his grand slam in the second inning. Trey may be one of the smallest players in the league, but he has learned his fundamental skills and showed off his hitting prowess.
Kirk Freeport would clobber team Logic, 13-1. The first inning saw solid hitting from Kirk Freeport, giving them an advantage early in the game. Defensively, the group was solid behind the likes of Jaziah Johnson and Charlie Gilman. Andon Hislop made it home for Logic’s only run of the day.
Heading into the weekend, the Pony ranks see undefeated Conyers out front. Kirk Freeport, 3-2, HSBC, 2-2-1 and 2-2-1 Appleby are in hot pursuit with 1-4 Coldwell Banker and 1-4 team Logic bringing up the rear.
