Nurses run to serve patients

Cayman’s nurses will be pounding the pavement for a good cause.

The Cayman Islands Nurses Association is inviting the public to take part in its annual 5K Walk/Run which takes place this Saturday, 11 May, at Camana Bay. Registration will take place between the Cayman National Bank and Citco buildings starting at 6am and the walk/run will begin at 6.30am.

“The 5K Walk/Run is one of the last activities in our annual celebration of Nurses Week and we would love to have the public join us as we finish on a healthy note,” said Sharon Buckley, President of the Cayman Islands Nurses Association. “This is an event that can be enjoyed by the entire family, whether it’s taking part in the walk/run or cheering on the side lines.

“We hope the local running community and the casual walkers and runners will come out and support us.”

The race starts at the registration point and circles the Cayman International School twice, staying well away from main roads and traffic, making it suitable for adults, kids, strollers and pets.

Funds raised will go toward the purchase of a simulator HAL, which is a mannequin used in training to demonstrate how to care for people in real-life situations.

The registration fee is $15 for adults and $5 for children under 14. It includes a T-shirt which was designed by West End Primary School student Johvon Bodden, who took first place in the nurses association’s design competition. There will also be on-course support, post-race snacks, trophies for the top five male and female finishers and several random spot prizes.

Although registration can be done on Saturday, Buckley encourages people to register online in advance at
