In their final game of the regular season, Home Gas clinched first place in the AAA division of the Cayman Islands Little League Association 2013 season.
Home Gas would smash Lindsay Fiduciary Services, 14-2, earlier this month at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
The second inning ended with the game still close with a 3-2 score. Home Gas blew it wide open in the third by scoring five runs on big hits from Kevin Weber and Jonah Pierre.
Four more runs were scored in the fourth inning, including an inside-the-park home run from Miguel Rodriguez. Home Gas flame thrower Finigan Huffington settled down nicely after being roughed up a bit in the first inning and went on to pitch four scoreless innings, striking out 11 of the 14 batters he faced.
Home Gas has been able to win in a variety of ways, from offensive onslaughts to close encounters, such as the 5-4 victory against Popeyes last month. Huffington, nicknamed ‘The Terminator,’ had another good pitching performance.
Huffington would get help from the likes of Piat Colbourne, who had good at bats and scored the go-ahead run and centre fielder Piers Davies, who threw out a runner attempting to steal third.
All season long, a number of players have stepped up in the clutch for Home Gas such as Daniel Reid and Julian Menko.
At the end of 12 regular season games, the standings would show Home Gas in first at 8-4 with Popeye’s second at 7-5 and Lindsay in third at 3-9.
The double elimination playoffs to determine the division championship begin this week.
