Yeeee-haaaaaaaaa!! Camelot auction goes country-style

Get the leather chaps out, cowpokes, and get ready for the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman’s Camelot Auction 2013.

Yes, pardners, Friday, 24 May, is the 27th annual fundraiser, which this year is under the banner of the Rotary Round-Up. So git along, li’l dogies.

No black-tie formality here but the wild, wild west with country music, loads of games, raffles, an auction and even a mechanical bull.

It all begins with a champagne reception at venue the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman in all three ballroooms. Then there’s a menu from Frederic Morineau, chief rustler-of-food at the Ritz-Carlton. Expect low-smoked and BBQ beef brisket and honey lime and cilantro glazed game hen to Mississippi mud pie and themed beverages on the night. Yum!

Games include quick draw, ring toss and milk bottle knockdown to keep people busy.

Charity fundraiser

On auction are a whole host of goods including jet-ski, one free year of high definition cable television service, gift certificates, a bottle of Appleton 50 Year Old Rum and getaways, just to name a few.

It’s hoped that over $150,000 will be raised to support all projects over the 2013-14 season’s vocational and community programmes. Some of these include the Bonaventure Boys Home and Frances Bodden Girls Home improvements, the Meals on Wheels programme, Christmas Tree Lighting and the annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party on Boxing Day.

Rotarians from all four local clubs generally attend as do Rotaract-ers and the rest of us in the local community.

Of course, as it’s got a Western theme, we’re gonna want to ditch the black tie look in favour of something more in order of Clint or Johnny Wayne, Cat Ballou or even the cast of Blazing Saddles. Just hope there ain’t no beans on the menu, y’hear?
