Junked cars go up in flames

Firefighters tackled a blaze on Seymour Road, near the George Town Landfill, Monday afternoon as several abandoned cars went up in flames.

The cars were on fire on Seymour Road in the industrial estate. The flames and smoke could be seen from the Easterly Tibbetts highway as commuters made their way home from work just before 5pm.

Bystanders at the scene said workmen had been cutting metal at the scrap yard when the fire broke out.

The Fire Services Department said an investigation was under way late Monday afternoon to determine exactly how the fire had started. No-one was injured in the blaze.
