National Gallery encourages 2013 graduates

In keeping with their mandate to preserve and promote the appreciation and practise of visual arts in the Cayman Islands, the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands will be presenting twelve school graduates with their annual “Visual Arts Achievement” award.

Now in its eighth year, The National Gallery Art Award encourages graduating students of high schools on both Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac to strive towards their artistic best.

The award for excellence is chosen by the head of each school’s art department or principal. It is presented to the most outstanding art student of the graduating year in each of the participating schools.

The award packages includes gallery membership, which allow the recipients to be highly active in the arts by being updated electronically on events and opportunities within the gallery and the islands’ artistic community. Membership also allows for discounts on further education courses and free admission to existing and nighttime gallery programmes.

The award also comes with a gift bag containing art equipment and apparel and an educational art book.

National Gallery director, Natalie Urquhart, stated, “We are extremely proud of this year’s award recipients and hope that each student will continue to study and eventually work in art based fields.
