‘Gillie’ saw Athletic bond after setbacks

Cayman Athletic Sports Club had another successful football season and were thankful to all the people that made it possible.

“Our Under-15 team did not win any championships this year, but they still did good for being one of the youngest teams in the league,” said technical director Ernie “Gillie” Seymour.

“We drew two games with the eventual league winners, Academy Sports Club, and were runners-up in the U-15 FA Cup Final to Future Sports Club, who were the league runners-up and that is success in itself.

“Our reserve team for the first time playing in that league came fourth and was the only team to defeat the
eventual winners, Bodden Town.”

Athletic’s senior players like Kyle Santamaria, Kemar Scott and Nigel Solomon have helped youngsters like Matthew Suberan, Santagelo Bush and Jeronnie McLean developed.

Overall, the club gelled well and formed a closer bond after upheavals the previous season.

Gillie added: “Our Premier League team maintained their sixth place spot above the relegation zone for the second consecutive year after being promoted from
the First Division two seasons ago.”
