Off-season beach parties
at Rum Point

With hurricane season at its peak, September is typically the time when many tourism-related businesses take a break, and employees take their vacation.

But that doesn’t mean there is no fun to be had in Cayman during low season.

Rum Point Restaurant is one of the businesses that will be closing for several weeks this slow season, but every cloud has a silver lining, and in this case, it means the folks at Red Sail Sports and Rum Point’s Wreck Bar have the chance to offer something new to residents.

Every Wednesday and Saturday through September and October (starting on Saturday, Sept. 7), there will be island-style barefoot beach parties on the sandy shores of Rum Point.

Residents will be able to walk out of the office, or off the beach, and straight onto one of Red Sail Sport’s 65-foot catamarans, which will whisk them across the North Sound as the sun sets, tropical cocktail in hand.

On arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a freshly made frozen daiquiri from the Dak Shack, followed by a Caribbean Buffet, served on the beach.

It’s the perfect carefree dinner al fresco, with stars overhead and sand underfoot – and a relaxing boat ride back at the end.

The $38 price tag includes the round-trip catamaran ferry from Safehaven to Rum Point, welcome daiquiri and buffet dinner, which includes soup, salad, jerk chicken and pork, Cayman-style fish, sides and dessert. The Wreck Bar will open for additional drinks and a cash bar is available on the catamaran for pre-dinner cocktails.

Boats depart Safehaven at 5:30 p.m. and return from Rum Point at 9:15 p.m. Call 623-5965 for reservations.

What better way to celebrate hurricane season than with a beach buffet under the stars?
