A $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of fugitive Marcus Manderson, who escaped from prison a month ago, is still on offer.
Cayman CrimeStoppers reminded the public this week about the cash incentive in an effort to help authorities find Manderson, who escaped along with two other inmates on Aug. 14 from Her Majesty’s Prison at Northward.
Manderson, who was serving a 10-year sentence for possession of a modified flare gun, is the only one of the three escapees still on the run.
Chadwick Dale, who had been jailed for robbery, was caught one week after the jailbreak. He admitted in court Tuesday to charges of escaping lawful custody. Steve Manderson, Marcus Manderson’s father, was recaptured in Frank Sound two weeks after the escape. He is serving a life sentence for murder,
Malcolm Ellis, chairman of Cayman CrimeStoppers, encouraged anyone with information about the whereabouts of Marcus Manderson to call 800-TIPS (800-8477) or go online at www.crimestoppers.ky.
All information is treated confidentially, he said, and informants do not have to leave a name or telephone number. Calls are answered in Miami, and callers receive a “code number” and may call back at a later date to find out whether their information led to an arrest and conviction and whether they qualify for the reward.
“This is a slightly different situation than usual,” Mr. Ellis said, “in that clearly they know who they are looking for. There is no question mark over the arrest and conviction requirement – that’s a given. This is just a case of providing information that leads to his capture .
“With it being a month since the escape, we thought it would be a good opportunity to remind people that there is that incentive out there.”
