Breeze run always goes down a storm

Elite runners, casual ones and parents with strollers all get a chance for another short workout and to help two charities in the process next month.

The 7th annual Breeze Fusion 2 Mile Walk/Run is all set for Saturday Nov. 2. It is organized by Breeze FM and the Phoenix Athletic Club.

Walkers will start at 6:30 a.m. and runners at 6:45 a.m. Registration is $15 adults/$10 students 16 and under.

The route starts at Smith Cove, South Sound, proceeds to South Church Street and turns onto Denham Thompson Way.

Then it’s right onto Walkers Road, before turning right onto South Church Street and back down to Smith Cove. Marshals will guide participants along the route.

Since the first Breeze Fusion in 2007, part proceeds have gone to the National Council for Voluntary Organizations, an independent, nonprofit, charity that supports community projects.

A second beneficiary is also chosen each year. This time, it will be Clifton Hunter High School’s Adopt-a-Child program.

The race with its new route produced winners in a multitude of categories last year. The overall male and female winners were Dominic Corbin and Leslie-Ann Daley with times of 10 minutes 23 seconds and 13:18, respectively. The winner for the walk category for men was Owen Bailey and for females Marcella Uncy.

The response from Breeze’s corporate and retail partners was tremendous as 20 sponsors joined the initiative.

All participants will receive a goodie bag and a participation medal, and first, second and third-place male and female overall winners will receive trophies. There also will be random prize draws.

Registration forms are available online at or from Cayman Active.
