The Camana Bay Summer Mixed League is staging its regular season finale tonight. The five-round competition, put on by the Cayman Islands Netball Association, currently features defending champions Rising Stars in first place with 16 points.
Rising Stars, 3-1, play the 3-0 Blazers in an exhibition contest at 7:30 p.m. at Camana Bay’s Arts and Recreation Center. Blazers, who sport veterans like Romone Buchanan and Kimesha Walters, could complete an unbeaten campaign if they defeat 2-1 Unity at 8:30 p.m. Tonight’s other contest pits Angela Whittaker and the Ernst and Young Sunbeams against Mixers. Both teams are 0-3 with three points.
The Stars are coming off a 21-10 victory over the Mixers last Thursday.
The winners feature a number of male talents such as David Taylor, Collin Anglin and Travis Barnes and all had significant roles on offense. There was the usual array of female stars such as Marcia Moiten and Kady Myers. The Mixers continue to show promise behind male players like Jermaine Seymour.
The finals are now scheduled for next Wednesday, Oct. 16, with four matches starting from 7 p.m.
Going forward, attention will shift to the Appleby Netball League – Cayman’s national women’s competition – next month with the opening uniform parade slated for Nov. 16.
