Coed division races remain tight

Softball enthusiasts have one last shot at securing their playoff footing.

The 2013 Fall Adult Coed Softball League, put on by the Cayman Islands Little League Association, is entering its 12th and final week of the regular season. Matches started on Sunday and will continue through Thursday at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town. Monday offers an interesting doubleheader at 8 p.m. Dart challenge UBS Aces on field three with Master Batters taking on BritCay Premiums on field four.

Dart, with star hitter Krystle Barrett, is on a six-game losing streak, but can win the C League regular season crown by beating current frontrunners UBS Aces, led by Benoit Ouellette. Master Batters, led by Joe Jewitt, and BritCay, featuring Kenneth Davis, are aiming for the B League’s third seed.

Postseason seeding is on the minds of most teams in the competition. In the top flight, Tower Marketing Titans, led by Peter Whittaker, sits in first place, with Doug Harrell and reigning champions KPMG A close on their heels. The rest of the A League standings see Rhino Rebar, former B League dynasty Coors Light Chuggers and A.L. Thompson’s Hammers.

PwC B, behind Shane Wanotch, is in an intense struggle with Andy Armstrong and the Al La Kebab Hitmen for the B League crown. The squads had identical 6-3-1 records at the start of last week. Master Batters, John Alban and the Rackam’s Crabbies, Donald Paddyfoot and the Phoenix Hard Hats and the BritCay Premiums are all within shouting distance of the third seed. Deloitte is in the cellar.

In the C League, the top seed gets a favorable first round match-up with the Fluff and Fold Home Gas Misfits, who went from winning the D League last season to languishing in last place this year. Saxon G-Force, featuring the likes of Yareli Bulnes, is locked in third place.
