Dart looks set for a postseason revival.
The side defeated Saxon G-Force, 16-15, during week one of the 2013 Fall Adult Coed Softball League playoffs last Wednesday. The contest took place at the Field of Dreams facility in George Town.
Without starting pitcher Tim Sullivan, Dart relied on a rejuvenated offense featuring the likes of Krystle Barrett, Dwayne Lee and Jerome Tivey. Saxon, under captain Casey Goff, played from behind most of the game in support of pitcher Jim Beisel.
G-Force did make a strong comeback in the later innings, led by shortstop Jordan Stubblefield and his towering three-run home run, but the rally would come up short.
For Dart, the victory snaps a seven-game losing streak that saw the 5-7 squad finish third in the C League standings. Saxon, 5-6-1, are the second seed. Both teams will continue their postseason march this week as Dart faces UBS Aces on Tuesday, Oct. 29, with Saxon battling Fluff and Fold Home Gas Misfits on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Those games are at 8 p.m. on field three.
UBS, thanks to the likes of Benoit Ouellette, entered the round-robin playoffs as the top seed at 6-5-1. Misfits were fourth at 1-9-2.
In the A League, reigning top flight champions KPMG A had a forfeit win over Rhino Rebar and A.L. Thompson’s Hammers upset Tower Marketing Titans, 16-15. Tower was first in the regular season at 10-2, KPMG were second at 8-4, Rhino Rebar were third at 7-5 and Hammers were last at 5-7.
The group’s double-elimination format will now pit Rhino Rebar against former B League champions Coors Light Chuggers in a must-win contest on Monday, Oct. 28, at 8 p.m. on field four.
Monday will also see Ben Taylor and Master Batters take on Brad Watts and the Phoenix Hard Hats in a B League clash at 8 p.m. on field three.
