R&B singer Estelle will headline the Cayman AIDS Foundation’s gala fundraiser, called The Scarlet Sky, on Nov. 23 at Camana Bay.
The gala, which culminates the foundation’s fundraising initiative dubbed Think Red Cayman, will include a red carpet cocktail reception, an auction and dinner, raffle and dancing, and a 30-minute performance by Grammy winner Estelle.
“We felt our kickoff to Think Red Cayman week 2013 should make an impact, and we look forward to presenting an elegant and modern evening with neo-soul and jazz, courtesy of Estelle, along with a live auction element and an intimate lounge feel,” said Cherine Usherwood, president of the Cayman AIDS Foundation.
Estelle’s career spans singing, song writing, and as a rapper and record producer. She is well known for her many collaborations with Kanye West, The Roots and John Legend, and is perhaps best known for her collaboration with West on the track “American Boy,” which yielded a Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Grammy for her and West.
The event caps a week of activities leading up to World AIDS Day on Dec. 1.
World AIDS Day
The theme for this year’s World AIDS Day is Getting to Zero: Zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS related deaths.
The day is an opportunity to join people worldwide in the fight against HIV, showing support for people living with HIV and AIDS, and commemorating those who have died from the disease.
Usherwood, along with her team and committee members, are appealing to the community to become involved in this year’s activities, which include a fund raising dress-down day on Nov. 29, free HIV testing, a candle light vigil and a church service.
The gala on Nov. 23 begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Arts and Recreation Centre, Camana Bay.
