A third man taken into custody in connection with a homicide case last month has been released by investigating officers.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service arrested the 26-year-old last week in connection with the shooting death of Earl Hart last month in Prospect.
The suspect was not immediately charged. He was released on police bail conditions.
The 26-year-old is the third person to be arrested in connection with the Oct. 3 shooting of Mr. Hart, 22, in his Marina Drive apartment. Two men arrested earlier were also released. One of the suspects, a 31-year-old man, was released without bail conditions. A 21-year-old was released on police bail.
According to police, around 9:30 p.m. Oct. 3, multiple shots were fired into an apartment on Marina Drive where Mr. Hart stayed. Mr. Hart was taken to Cayman Islands Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead early Friday morning, Oct. 4.
According to court records, Mr. Hart had testified in the murder trial of Chakane “C.J.” Scott after Scott was accused in the shooting death of Asher McGaw in East End in September 2011. Scott was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012. RCIPS officers investigating Mr. Hart’s killing did not state any potential motive, but indicated his court testimony had nothing to do with it.
