Shot fired in bar robbery

Royal Cayman Islands Police officers are investigating another robbery reported at Welly’s Cool Spot bar and restaurant in George Town.

Late Thursday, police received a report that at 11:01 p.m. two men entered Welly’s and demanded cash from employees there.

One of the men carried a firearm, police said. A shot was fired during the hold up, but injuries were reported.

The men stole an undisclosed sum of cash and ran from the scene. Police said they were last seen on Sound Way in George Town.

One suspect was described as 6’1″ tall and muscular. The other was about 5’8″ tall and stocky, according to witnesses. At the time of the robbery, their faces were covered, police said.

Thursday night’s incident was the second robbery at Welly’s this month. In early December, a worker at the bar-restaurant was robbed by a masked assailant, according to Royal Cayman Islands Police Service reports.

The hold up occurred just before 3 p.m. on Dec. 5, when a masked male dressed in a green t-shirt and black pants, armed with a knife, held up and robbed a female employee.

Some cash was stolen, police did not state how much.

The male suspect escaped toward the back entrance of Welly’s.

  1. Sad story for the closing of the Christmas season, but we still have to be very thankful, because in many other places dozens of this sort of report was made.
Thanks to the police for their ever vigilant service, and to business person I say no counting of the money until the game is done.
