Fidelity backs Storm

Fidelity Bank is sponsoring the Cayman Storm rugby team this year.

Fidelity has been involved with rugby in the Cayman Islands for many years and already supports the Cayman national team’s Big Game series and more recently the Ama Tsotsi sevens side.

Brett Hill, president of Fidelity Bank in Cayman, said: “When the opportunity to support the Cayman Storm team came up, we jumped at it.

“They have been amongst the forerunners for a number of years and play an attractive style of rugby.

“They also have several good, young Caymanian players in their squad and I’m keen to see them progress. too. Rugby works for us and the sport is really growing in Cayman.”

Mark Woollard, manager of The Storm said: “We are delighted with the support Fidelity Bank have given us, and already we can see that they are a very active sponsor with several staff members coming down to support the team, which is great to see.

“We have had a good draft, picked up some good quality players this year and are looking forward to a successful season.”

Woollard was at the press launch of the sponsorship deal along with Hill, Storm captain Simon Dunford, player Hugh “Willo” Williams, Fidelity chairman Anwer Sunderji and Fidelity business development manager Jim McLean.

The Alex Alexander Trophy Memorial competition runs over six weekends from January, ending in March before leading to the DART Vase knockout competition, which runs over two weekends in March and April.

The Heineken Charity Shield, which was decided back in December and won by the John Doak Architecture Iguanas over the previous holders the Advance Fire and Plumbing Buccaneers, started the 15s season, but the Premier and most coveted trophy is the Alex Alexander Memorial that began on Saturday.

The current holders of the Alexander Memorial are the Iguanas, but the Buccaneers, Queensgate Pigs Trotters and Fidelity Bank Cayman Storm are looking to unseat them.
