Reckless driving blamed in BT smash

A public bus passenger was injured Friday when a vehicle overtaking along Shamrock Road collided with the bus.

According to police, at 6:40 a.m. Friday, a Honda Accord traveling westbound on Shamrock Road attempted to overtake another westbound vehicle on the soft shoulder of the road.

Police said the Honda struck the bus, which was parked on the left shoulder of the road, sending the car into a concrete wall of the Prospect Reef Apartments.

The Honda’s driver left the scene after being picked up in another car. After reaching George Town, he contacted police, officers said.

A female passenger in the No. 4 Bodden Town bus was taken to hospital and later released.

The bus driver told the Caymanian Compass that the Honda was racing another vehicle when it clipped the bus’s bumper and went into the wall.

The bus driver indicated that, after the accident, the Honda driver jumped into the other racing vehicle and sped off.

Police did not immediately confirm that account.
