Dogs pawing for 5k

Dog lovers get another chance to keep their four-legged friends fit and to raise money to help man’s best friend.

The fifth annual CARE K9 5k Dog Jog fun run is on Sunday Feb. 16 at Camana Bay, starting 7.30 a.m. The route follows a scenic double loop through Camana Bay’s town centre, with the start and finish point between 62 Forum Lane and 89 Nexus Way.

This event is sponsored by BritCay and presented by CARE (Cayman Animal Rescue Enthusiasts) in aid of their community spay and neuter campaign.

Runners have so many options for dog runs now that athletes like Greg Meaker, Roger Yeomans and Mike Ridsdale are regularly seen with their pets in races.

Cost is $20 offline to register, which includes a complimentary T-shirt, finish-line snacks and doggie biscuits, and entry into a random prize draw for all finishers.

There will be award prizes for the top three overall male and female runners, fastest male with dog and fastest female with dog, sponsored by Cayman Animal Hospital.

Organizers prefer participants to help by registering online, but registration forms can be filled in and taken to the Camana Bay Observation Tower between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 15, or if all else fails, at the event itself if you come early.
