The Caribbean region is well represented at the Winter Olympic Games, which began in Russia over the weekend.
Cayman skier Dow Travers is in good company in Sochi. The other Caribbean reps are a five-member bobsleigh team from Jamaica, a husband-and-wife team representing Dominica, and athletes from the U.S. Virgin Islands and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
Jamaica’s team includes pilot Winston Watts, brakeman Marvin Dixon and team member Wayne Blackwood, plus coach Thomas Samuel and chef de mission Nelson Christian Stokes.
United States-based Gary di Silvestri and his Italian-born wife Angelica Morrone di Silvestri, who have Dominican citizenship, are representing the island at the Games.
Di Silvestri will be in the men’s 15K classical race and his wife in the women’s 10K classical race.
Jasmine Campbell is representing the USVI in the giant slalom on Feb. 18 and slalom on Feb. 21, and halfpipe skier Peter Adam Crook is competing for BVI.
