A finals rematch highlighted the latest round of action on the diamond.
The Field of Dreams facility in George Town hosted week two of the 2014 Winter Adult Coed Softball League. Put on by the Cayman Islands Little League Association, three games were played Thursday after 10 games took place over the last few days. The highlight was Gregg Arnold and KPMG A tackling Smarnell Thomas and the Tower Titans, which was a rematch of last season’s A League championship – which the accountants won. KPMG is off to a good start this year, beating A.L. Thompson’s Hammers 19-3 in their season opener.
Thursday’s other match-ups pitted a pair of rookie teams in Donald Paddyfoot and the Delphi Geeks and YMCA We Got The Runs, while Home Gas Regulators made its return to the top flight against Rhino Rebar.
KPMG was one of three division winners. Rackam’s Crabbies defied the odds to nab the B League crown by beating the Al La Kebab Hitmen, and Dart claimed the C League championship.
Week three of the league officially starts Sunday, Feb. 16. The Hammers are slated to take on the Hitmen on field three at 4:30 p.m.
The concession stand is open for spectators during games and Gino’s Pizza is serving food until 9 p.m. every night. The menu is a work in progress but pizza will be a standard.
There are 24 teams this season, which is a high amount compared to years past. With the Easter break coming up, many sides will get bye-weeks near the end of the campaign, and the regular season is expected to expand to 13 weeks. The playoffs will carry on for four weeks and will take some teams into late May.
