Voting open to Colombians on island

Colombian nationals who live in the Cayman Islands can vote in their country’s parliamentary election Sunday at a polling booth at the George Town town hall. Registration must be completed by Friday.

Voters will elect senators and deputies to both chambers of Congress in the run up to the presidential election on May 25.

A diplomat from the Colombian consulate in Jamaica will arrive Friday to encourage Colombians to vote and to offer help with registration.

There were an estimated 175 Colombian nationals in the Cayman Islands.

Voters will need identification documents in order to register.

The booth will be open at the hall between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
