Nominations sought for board of directors
The Cayman Islands Tourism Association is inviting nominations for its president and board of directors ahead of next month’s annual general meeting.
Ken Hydes’s term as president of the nonprofit group officially comes to an end on April 16, when the ballot for a new board takes place. Nine seats on the 14-member board are open, with nominations closing on March 14.
“We are looking for some of the strong leaders from within CITA membership who wish to help steer the future of tourism in the Cayman Islands,” said CITA executive director Jane van der Bol.
Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman manager Mark Langevin, Nigel Mitten of Majestic Tours, Ash McKnight of GoPro diving and Hugh Treadwell, CEO of Active Capital, retain their seats on the board as they received the most votes at last year’s election.
Ms. van der Bol added, “The groups of individuals that comprise CITA’s board of directors have always been strong leaders, both within their own businesses as well as within the community.
“They contribute their vast amount of knowledge and expertise in tourism by guiding the CITA through any number of tourism issues affecting the association, its members and the Cayman Islands. Directors set goals for the upcoming membership a year ahead while working closely with various government bodies to tackle issues such as safety, air arrivals, tourism product development, cost of doing business and education.”
Ms. van der Bol will present the association’s annual report at the annual general meeting at the Marriott Beach Resort on Seven Mile Beach.
Any CITA member business that has been a member for at least one year is eligible to be nominated for a position on the board, with the support of five members’ signatures.
There are 14 board seats available representing hotel, condo/villa, water sports, transportation, restaurants, cruise, sister islands and allied sector, which represents numerous businesses in the community that are directly or indirectly supported by tourism.
All CITA Members can attend the event, though only paid members are eligible to vote. For more information contact CITA at 949-8522 or email [email protected].
