Some of Cayman’s most prominent tourism industry players are among the contenders eligible to sit on the board of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association.
Current president Ken Hydes, who works at Dart, is up for re-election as president as the association prepares for its annual general meeting at the Marriott beach resort next month.
The event will also feature a “state of the industry” report, speeches from Mr. Hydes and Tourism Minister Moses Kirkconnell, and a briefing on the new hospitality school from restaurateur Marcus Mueri.
A host of industry figureheads are also up for election to CITA’s board of directors, covering sectors from hotels to watersports. The board will be selected at the AGM between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on April 16.
CITA executive director Jane van der Bol said, “The annual report and state of the industry presentation at the annual general meeting will showcase the accomplishments of the association and our tourism industry throughout the year and into the future.
“The CITA continues to be the voice of private sector tourism businesses. CITA works on industry initiatives and lobbying efforts on hot topics such as increasing air and cruise arrivals, and supporting pro-business measures such as reducing the cost of doing business, and working closely with government entities such as Immigration to provide feedback on policies.
“CITA continues to bridge the gap between private sector businesses and the department of tourism on events, international marketing initiatives and more.”
