Brac Ag Show rooted in success

Margarito Chantilope crowned Farmer of the Year

 More than 1,000 people packed the Agriculture Grounds in Cayman Brac over the weekend for the annual Agriculture Show.

The bounty of the Brac’s farming heritage was showcased, including outstanding livestock and local crafts, a huge display of local produce and mouthwatering dishes, as well as events such as a hat show and children competitions, civil service demonstrations, sales booths and entertainment by J.R. Douglas and Localz.

Agriculture Minister Kurt Tibbetts highlighted great success in Cayman Brac crops despite rough terrain on the bluff. He also said that with such great success there, all others could learn from this and be encouraged in agricultural farming.

For an impressive display of local produce, Margarito Chantilope, who has been farming on the Brac since he was 7, was again crowned King of the Show. Mr. Chantilope was presented a special appreciation award for his lifelong success in agriculture in the Sister Islands.

Estella Ryan was named Champion Exhibitor for Arts & Crafts;

Tadd McFarlane was awarded Champion Cattle Farmer in Show; and

Spot Bay Primary School was named Champion School in Show.

The tiny tots fashion show is among the highlights.
