Travel costs for government officials on a trip to London last month came in under $20,000, according to reports from the premier’s office.
Premier Alden McLaughlin headed to London with his ministry chief officer Eric Bush and George Town MLA Roy McTaggart. The total cost of the March 23-28 trip was $19,056.02.
The breakdown of the costs included $11,913.88 for premium economy airfare, $4,442.14 for hotel charges, and total “per diem” allowances of $2,700.
While in London, Mr. McLaughlin had separate meetings with U.K. overseas territories minister Mark Simmonds and the U.K. Treasury regarding the budget and various Cayman Islands government projects. He also met with Lord Blencathra, whose contract as the Cayman Islands representative in London ended on March 31.
The Global Islamic Finance and Investment Group, to which Mr. McLaughlin has been appointed, also met in the U.K., hosted by Foreign and Commonwealth Officer Senior Minister of State Baroness Sayeeda Warsi.
The group was announced at the World Islamic Economic Forum on Oct. 30, 2013, and the Premier was in London attending its first meeting at Lancaster House.
